… and the livin’ is easy …

sunnyside community garden

The community garden looks so absolutely gorgeous right now! I invite everyone to drop by and pick some flowers from the communal centre plot. For those of you who prefer to “virtually” go to the garden (or just can’t wait!) click here for more snapshots.

p.s. The Sunnyside Community Garden is on MacDonnell Street at Brock St (beside the daycare.)

does English count?

ok, what’s up with this sign we saw in Oakville?

This person needs more than a translator if they think European is a language.

make hay when the sun shines

Aside from a couple of meltdowns from Hazel, we had a great weekend away!

Paul and Michelle’s wedding had the some of the nicest readings and vows that I’ve heard at a wedding. The reading was one of Paul’s favourite e. e. cummings poems, “somewhere i have never travelled.” Unfortunately Hazel didn’t have the stamina to stay for the dinner, but what can you expect for a month old? You can see photos here.

I was thrilled that I could find something that fit me to wear!

A highlight of the weekend was that my parents babysat for a few hours and Paul and I went for a walk by the lake and a fancy drink at a neat little martini bar. Soooo wonderful to have some time to ourselves. More photos at my folks’ house here.

road trip!

well, we’re about to embark on our first car trip with a baby. We’re headed to Toronto tomorrow afternoon for a wedding on Saturday.

Paul’s old housemates, Paul Somerville and Michelle Texeira are gettin’ hitched. Anyone reading this who worked with us at the Goat will likely know Paul S. (While we worked there, there was a Paul Q. a Paul H. and two Paul S.’s!)

update

Hazel’s doing well.   She’ll be 4 weeks old tomorrow.  She’s busy sleeping, eating, looking around, crying – all the things that babies do.  She loves music, especially the Elizabeth Mitchell cd from Claire and Rosie, the Amandla soundtrack and Amadou and Mariam. Often, when nothing else will soothe her, music will chill her out.

Day 10

The last few days since the birth have just flown by.  Each night, Paul and I wonder what we did that day and how it went by so quickly.  A lot of our time is spent on the basics – eating, feeding Hazel, tending her bodily needs, sleeping, and so on.  Other than that, a large part of each day is just spent wondering at her – how cute she is, the funny faces she makes, how strong her little limbs are, how we possibly could have made this tiny being…

Quite a trip.

My apologies to anyone I talked to during the first few days, and now don’t even remember having the conversation!  Nothing personal, just sheer exhaustion.

A big thank you to all our friends and family who have been so amazing.  We can’t believe our good luck to be surrounded by such big-hearted people.  Thanks for all the food, phone calls of congratulations, offers of support, baby gifts and patience as we talk about nothing but Hazel!

deep thoughts

Does it seem kind of weird to anyone else that the “short form” of World Wide Web (www) is said “double-u double-u double-u”?

Instead of 3 syllables, the short form is 9.

Maybe it’s just me…

baby dress

At least a year ago, maybe two, I started a dress for a friend’s baby. That baby grew faster than I knit, and unfortunately I didn’t finish the dress in time to give it to her. Finally, at long last, it’s done!

(Shan, if you’re reading this, it was supposed to be for Avonlea!)

still waiting…

While the first 8 months or so of pregnancy were pretty dreamy, I now feel like I’m waddling towards the finish line of some incredibly long marathon. My feet have swollen up beyond recognition, my arches have fallen – I feel like my nana!

The last few weeks have really given me a new empathy for seniors! I find myself mentally drafting angry letters to the editor about how there aren’t enough benches downtown. ha.
